Aaron Zhang is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Currency Mart Inc., one of Canada's leading independent foreign exchange institutions. Since co-founding Currency Mart in 2009, Aaron has directed the organization's corporate strategy, software engineering architecture, institutional liquidity partnerships, and commercial business development.

Under Aaron's leadership, Currency Mart has grown from an electronic funds transfer consultancy on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg into a multi-provincial financial services operation with four retail cash branches across Manitoba and Ontario, an automated 24/7 digital foreign exchange platform, over 77,000 customers served, and more than $900 million CAD in currency exchanged.

Education & Background

Aaron graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Combining technical software engineering principles with institutional currency trading mechanics, Aaron recognized early on that legacy retail banks imposed excessive 3% to 4% foreign exchange spreads on Canadian families, travelers, and businesses due to outdated technology and heavy administrative overhead.

Applying algorithmic order routing and real-time wholesale rate aggregation, Aaron developed Currency Mart's proprietary pricing engine. By bundling retail transactions into wholesale blocks executed directly with tier-1 Canadian commercial banking partners, Currency Mart passes institutional-grade volume savings directly to retail and commercial clients.

Platform & Infrastructure Leadership

Aaron spearheaded the launch and continuous evolution of Currency Mart Online, enabling clients across all Canadian provinces and territories to book USD/CAD exchanges 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from home or office. He engineered the platform's seamless integration with Canadian online banking bill payment rails and Interac e-Transfer networks, ensuring funds settle safely into clients' USD or CAD accounts within 24 to 48 hours.

In addition to digital systems, Aaron oversaw the technical buildout of Currency Mart's physical branch network, including the Winnipeg Downtown Skywalk branch, the St. Vital Shopping Centre branch, the Toronto Downtown PATH branch at Richmond-Adelaide Centre, and the North York branch at Yonge Sheppard Centre.
